Description

Signal Insights is a traffic analysis project exploring how images and video can be used to detect and count vehicles, track movement, and extract number-plate text. It also reflects the original project idea: a traffic speed detector with signal redirection. The public repository describes a system that requires substantial infrastructure to operate; there is no live demo.

From a signal idea to a vision pipeline

The original major-project idea connected traffic speed detection with signal redirection. Building that idea raised a broader systems question: before a traffic decision can be made, how does software turn a camera feed into structured observations?

Analysis workflow

  • Accept image and video inputs for analysis.
  • Detect and classify vehicles using an object-detection model.
  • Track movement and report counts; the repository also documents number-plate extraction through OCR.
  • Present processing status and results through a React interface and FastAPI backend.

Technical direction

The public README lists Python, FastAPI, React, TypeScript, YOLOv8, OpenCV, RapidOCR, and ByteTrack. Running the full system requires model and compute infrastructure; this page intentionally has no live link.
